All About Thanksgiving! (Turkey Trot 10k Recap)

Hello everyone!

How was your Thanksgiving celebration?! I hope you had a blast as much as I did!

My husband and I just came back from Houston, Texas. We spent the Thanksgiving weekend with our family and friends over there. It was fun!

Since we were leaving for Houston, we decided to have an early feast the weekend before Thanksgiving Day to celebrate with our family in Indianapolis. After all, we didn’t want to miss my uncle’s baked turkey and stuffing. He makes them good…really good! 🙂

Turkey already in the oven first thing in the morning.

YUM!

My aunts and I thought of doing a little workout before we indulged in our pre-Thanksgiving dinner. We attended a yoga class first thing in the morning.

After yoga, we started preparing food as soon as we got home. Everyone contributed and helped in the preparation. It was a pretty busy morning for us.

I made Ranch Deviled Eggs.

I also made Grilled Veggie Pasta which I featured in one of my Meatless Mondays’ recipe.

My aunt made Corn Casserole, and my husband made Apple Cranberry Chutney.

Everything looked soooo delicious! My cousin and I couldn’t wait to start eating.

We were definitely in a state of food coma that night after eating. We were so stuff!

Since my husband and I were not busy on Thanksgiving Day, we decided to make the most of it. We thought that we should at least make an effort to burn off calories before we feast again in Houston. 😛 Thus we signed up for a local race in our town called Friends of the Wilmington Parks Turkey Trot. We signed up for the 10k.

I’ve never done a 10k race before. After my first 5k race, I jumped straight to half-marathon races. So this was my first ever 10k race!

For the 10k, we ran the 5k course twice. We crossed the finish line twice! 🙂

My husband and I have tried running this same course before, so we knew what to expect already. This is usually our route whenever we do our runs in town. This course is hilly! 🙂

And off we go!

It was a gorgeous morning for racing. It was sunny and cool (high 40s).

But I think I overdressed too warm. I wore thermal pants and two layers of long sleeves. I felt uncomfortably hot after a few minutes of running thus the look of my face here. LOL! 😛

I couldn’t remove my top layer because I pinned my bib over the front zipper. Oh well! I tried not to worry much about it. I focused on other things instead to divert my mind from thinking hot. LOL. I just enjoyed our town’s beautiful scenery!

As it always is with any race, the last mile was the hardest for me. I just had to keep reminding myself that I was almost there! I finished in 1:06! 🙂

I am so happy my husband did this with me. It’s definitely something fun to do on Thanksgiving day. 🙂 I felt great that morning!

Yay! I’m so proud of us!

After burning off some calories to start the day, we came home and ate turkey, chutney and mashed potato leftovers from our pre-Thanksgiving dinner.

Friday night was our trip to Houston, but I didn’t let Black Friday just pass me by. My husband and I went to the Outlet Mall first thing Friday morning.

First store I went to was UnderArmour! I love the feeling of scoring great deals on workout clothes! 🙂 There were a lot of people but it didn’t seem really crowded. It wasn’t hectic. There were a lot of free parking spaces. It was a really pleasant shopping experience.

And after shopping, we were off to Houston and celebrated some more!

Did everyone else enjoy their Thanksgiving week? Any fun stories to tell? Did anyone race? Did anyone score any stellar Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals? Please share!!! 🙂
